, Friday, February 14, 2020,The Tri-State Track Coaches Association indoor season is coming to a close, and Fox Chapel coach Tom Moul is confident his team will finish the season strong.
“The season is going pretty well,” he said. “We still have a couple of weeks left. The TSTCA championship meet is Feb 22 at Edinboro, and the state meet is the week after that at Penn State.
“We hope to get a good number qualified for TSTCAs and possibly a couple for states.”
Moul said the distance medley relay team — Brooke Krally, Grace Sisson and Abby and Maddy Kieffer — was on the bubble to qualify for states.
“Those four have had good seasons so far individually, as well,” Moul said.
“The Kieffers are replacing Annika Urban and Sarena Seeger from last year’s (distance medley relay) team that medaled at states.”
Sisson, along with Christian Fitch, recently competed at the Spire Scholastic Showcase, a competitive meet in Ohio that attracts top athletes from Ohio, West Virginia, Pennsylvania and Canada. Both ran in the 3,200-meter event.
“Another girl who has done well so far is Lauren Himmel in the hurdles, who broke a school record in that event,” Moul said.
“On the boys side, Christian is hopefully poised to run fast as the season’s end approaches, which is always the goal. Besides him, Caleb Kulikowski has had an excellent season throwing shot, along with Warner Macklin in the triple jump and Mike Prato in the high jump. They have all broken individual school records in their events.”
Moul said he was pleased with the overall competitiveness and work ethic of the boys and girls teams.
“I’m very excited to see who can qualify for the TSTCA championship meet and who can medal at that meet,” Moul said. “And of course, the ultimate goal is to get to states and medal there.”
Last year, Fitch claimed an eighth-place medal in the 3,000, and the girls distance medley relay team also took eighth at states.
