Spotlight Athlete: Jared Pegher

Jared Pegher, a senior on the Fox Chapel wrestling team, helped the Foxes finish eighth out of 26 teams at the Tool City tournament in Meadville on Jan. 7.

He finished third at 285 pounds and also won the award for the fastest pin as he took down his opponent in 13 seconds. His record is 13-3.

He has been on the wrestling team since he was a freshman and also plays football and rugby.

He will attend Ohio University next year and hopes to be a walk-on for the wrestling and rugby teams. He will major in mechanical engineering. For his efforts, he is The Herald Spotlight Athlete.

What is the strongest part of your wrestling?

My aggressiveness.

What would you like to improve?

My work on the bottom and staying light on my feet.

Who’s your favorite Pittsburgh athlete?

Brett Keisel.

Do you have any pre-match rituals or superstitions?

I like to get in a mindset where I feel like a beast and nothing will stop me.

What TV show makes you want to change the channel?

“House Hunters.”

What three items have to be in your refrigerator?

Milk, eggs and Isaly’s chipped chopped ham.

Do you have to watch what you eat during wrestling season?

Occasionally.

What is your favorite TV show?

“How It’s Made.”

What would make up your all-time favorite meal?

An omelet with mushrooms, onions, steak and peppers and some french toast made with Mancini’s bread.

What is your favorite vacation spot?

Virginia Beach.

If you could go anywhere you’ve never been, where would you go?

Seattle.

What are your hobbies?

Sports and singing in the school choir.

What junk food do you have a weakness for?

Five Guys burgers.

Is there a food you refuse to eat?

I haven’t found one yet.

What song would you sing if you were on “American Idol?”

“Somebody to Love” by Queen.

What movie could you watch over and over again?

“The Princess Bride.”
