For the second consecutive year, the Fox Chapel Area High School cheerleading squad won first place in the Battle in the ‘Burgh cheerleading competition. The event was held December 10 at the Peterson Event Center. The 22-member varsity squad participated in the non-tumbling division and was judged on stunts, dancing, and cheering.
In addition to preparing for the competition, the squad also has been busy finalizing plans for its annual toy drive. Collection of new toys costing less than $10 will begin Tuesday, December 13 at the first boys’ and girls’ varsity high school basketball games and run through Friday, December 16. Toys not donated at the games may be dropped off at the high school athletic office until Friday at 2:30 p.m.
The cheerleaders will wrap up 2016 with an appearance at the Russell Athletic Bowl (formerly Blockbuster Bowl) on December 28, 2016, in Orlando, Florida. The squad was invited to perform during halftime ceremonies at the game between West Virginia University and the University of Miami. The match-up will be nationally televised on ESPN.
