In addition to their brilliance on the court, the boys’ and girls’ tennis teams have proven they are equally as intelligent in the classroom.
Both teams were recognized as winners in this year’s Team GPA Challenge, with the boy’s varsity team earning a GPA of 4.123, and the girls posting a GPA of 4.077.
The boys’ team is the newly-crowned WPIAL champions and now advances to the Class AAA PIAA tournament. The WPIAL individual championship matches begin next week, with sophomore Robby Shymansky ranked as the top player in Pennsylvanian in his age group.
Members of the varsity team include seniors Neil Bencherif and Jared Cohen; juniors Karsten Langerquist and Kurran Singh; sophomores William Kabazie, Jay Kashyap, Jared Nord, Robby Shymansky, and Brandon Wei; and freshman Milo Baron.
The girls’ varsity squad is made up of seniors Claire Gaffney, Sophia Lee, Moira McCormick, Tanvi Meringenti, and Anna Shin; juniors Abbe Cohen, Margeaux Essey, Morgann Green, Amanda Nord, and Molly Wiese; sophomore Kristen Friday; and freshman Charlotte James.
During their season last fall, the girls won the program’s 21st team section championship, and junior Amanda Nord won the WPIAL Class AAA Section 3 singles championship. Amanda paired with freshman Charlotte James in doubles competition and the duo won the PIAA doubles championship. It was Amanda’s second time winning the doubles state title.
Congratulations to these super-smart student-athletes for their dedicated efforts and excellence!
