Track Teams Medal at Invitationals

The Foxes’ track and field teams put in some good performances at two season-ending annual invitationals. Both tournaments were held Friday, May 5.

“We split the team this year and sent athletes to each invitational so we could maximize participation,” explains head coach Tom Moul. “It was especially satisfying that we had two 4 x 800 teams medal on the same night. I’m really proud of those distance runners.”

At the Baldwin invitational, sophomore Kate Carnevale broke two Fox Chapel Area High School records. The former record in the 100-meter event was set in 2012, and the time for the 200-meters hadn’t been broken in 14 years. This is Kate’s first year participating in track, which make her accomplishments even more remarkable.

Other individual girls who medaled at Baldwin were junior Caelan Miller with an eighth-place finish in the mile; sophomore Annika Urban, who placed seventh in the 3200; and sophomore Sarena Seeger, who ran the 3200 and placed eighth.

Also medaling at the Baldwin invitational were the three girls’ relay teams, including the 4 x 800 team that took sixth place. Junior Caelan Miller, Sarena Seeger and Annika Urban, and freshman Grace Sisson make up the team.

Senior Maddie Lucey and sophomores Abby Baldauf, Hannah Flanders, and Carolyn Veith were part of the 4 x 400 relay group that also had a sixth-place finish

The 4 x 100 relay team comprised of Kate Carnevale, Hannah Flanders, Maddie Lucey, and senior Katherine Kauma placed seventh.

At the Pine-Richland invitational, the girls’ 4 x 800 relay team medaled at sixth place. Members include juniors Margaret Edgecombe and Megan Stafford, sophomore Ziya Xu, and freshman Brooke Krally. Individually, Brooke placed fifth in the 3200.

There also was one medalist from the boys’ team. Junior Ben Kronman placed eighth in the triple jump.

The Baldwin Track and Field Invitational typically draws more than 60 schools, while the Pine Richland tournament attracts roughly 50. Both events are considered place-winning predictors for the upcoming WPIAL track and field championships that will be held May 18 at Baldwin High School.
