Boys’ tennis inched one step closer to their goal of earning another WPIAL title when they handily defeated Chartiers Valley High School 5-0, on Wednesday, April 18, in the first round of the championship series.
In singles play, junior Robby Shymansky defeated Ryan Estatico 6-0, 6-0, while junior Jared Nord beat Mack Mason by the same score. Fox Chapel Area’s Milo Baron, a sophomore, defeated Zac Byrd 6-1, 6-0.
In doubles, senior Kurran Singh and junior Jay Kashyap overpowered Anthony Chiurazzi and Paul Langbein 6-0, 6-1; and junior Brandon Wei and senior Karsten Lagerquist defeated Sam Bellin and Jack Mack, 6-0, 6-0.
“I am proud of these young men’s efforts, not only because they won, but because they competed with complete engagement of body and heart,” says coach Alex Slezak. “That is the most any coach can ask for.”
The Foxes’ second round of the WPIAL team playoffs will be Monday, April 23.
