Fox Chapel’s football team broke up a tight game with a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns to turn back Baldwin, 35-14, on Friday night.
It was the third straight win for the Foxes, as they improved to 3-5 overall and 3-4 in the Class 5A Allegheny 9 Conference.
Coach Tom Loughran’s team used a punishing ground game to notch the win. Micah Morris rushed for 213 yards and three touchdowns on 22 carries, while Nick Gizzo added 190 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 25 carries.
Morris had scoring runs of 12, 5 and 3 yards while Gizzo scored on 27- and 2-yard runs. Andrew Jeffrey converted five PATs.
“The team is learning to take advantage of situations handed to us,” FC coach Tom Loughran said. “We’re playing a complete game, and we’ve cut down on the mistakes. Things are a lot easier when you can control the ground game.”
The Foxes, who are in fifth place in the conference but have been eliminated from postseason contention, will host Chartiers Valley at 7 p.m. Friday. The Colts fell to North Hills, 21-7, on Friday and will bring a 1-5 conference record into the game. Quarterback Reed Bruggerman passed for 118 yards and a touchdown in the loss.
