Sophomores Paige Ryan and Abby Pitcairn each scored second-half goals to lift Fox Chapel to 2-0 victory against North Allegheny in the WPIAL Class AAA field hockey championship Tuesday night at the Tigers’ Newman Stadium.
It’s Fox Chapel’s second WPIAL Class AAA title. The victory puts the Foxes (20-0) into the PIAA Class AAA playoffs. They will meet the third-place team from District 3 Nov. 10 at a time and site to be determined.
North Allegheny, which finished 13-7, saw its seven-game winning streak snapped.
The victory also gave the Foxes a season sweep over the Tigers. In a regular-season non-section game Sept. 10 at Fox Chapel, the Foxes won, 4-0.
Fox Chapel coach Jen McCrady said her team had plenty of opportunities early in the game.
“We had our chances in the beginning,” she said. “We had plenty of penalty corners [in the first half]; we just couldn’t convert. But I knew that with the pace we were playing, [a score] was going to come.”
