The WPIAL Class AAA boys golf championships got a little crazy Thursday at Latrobe Country Club.
There were several lead changes in the final hour, lightning fast greens (12 on the stimpmeter), some excellent shots and some missed opportunities.
But in the end, it was two golfers who played early and waited more than an hour for the field to finish their rounds that determined the 2014 champion in a sudden death playoff.
Legendary golfer Arnold Palmer, the WPIAL champion in 1946 and 1947, was there to greet the 36 competitors and to congratulate the eventual winner: Fox Chapel’s Anthony Cordaro, who used a two-putt par on the first playoff hole to defeat Indiana’s Kyle Grube.
