When Fox Chapel boys volleyball coach Phil O’Keeffe heard that his squad ranked No. 1 in the Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association Class AAA preseason rankings, he was a little concerned.”I didn’t know how they would handle being ranked that high,” O’Keeffe said. “I was concerned they might get big heads and be overconfident.”Fortunately, O’Keeffe’s concerns were unfounded.
“This is a different bunch of kids,” said O’Keeffe after watching his squad live up to the preseason hype during the first two months of the season. “This is a very mature group. They’ve worked hard to stay No. 1 all season.”
Fox Chapel entered the final week of the regular season atop the WPIAL and PVCA rankings and boasting an almost perfect record. The Foxes were unbeaten in Section 2 and won three of four tournament’s in which they’ve competed.
