The Fox Chapel boys volleyball team traveled to State College last weekend in hopes of securing its first PIAA championship.
Despite getting an early jump on Parkland, the Foxes fell, 3-1, on Saturday.
In their first appearance in the state finals since 2006, the Foxes won the first set 25-21 and held a 16-11 lead in the second set before Parkland came storming back to win the next three sets.
“First off, hats off to Parkland,” FC coach Phil O’Keeffe said. “We let them back in and they took full advantage of it. You can’t do that in a state championship match. I think if we go up 2-0, it’s a different story.
“We made some bad decisions and we had some communications breakdowns. Against an undefeated team, mistakes are costly. We have nothing to hang our heads about, though. There’s a lot of disappointment right now, but we had a great season. I’d have to say that we made the school and the community proud.”
