The Fox Chapel boys volleyball team entered the season with high expectations. Although its climb to the top ended with a loss in the state championship match, it had a season to remember.
“We had a very experienced team this year,” FC coach Phil O’Keeffe said. “We set the bar high, and we came very close to bringing home a state championship. The seniors on the team had been playing together since they were in eighth grade, and they expected to be successful. The experience that they brought to the court was perhaps the most that I have had in my 13 years as head coach. Even though we were a good team last year, we had been pointing to this season for a couple of years.”
That returning experience led to the Foxes being ranked the top team in the WPIAL and the state all season long. Their lone regular-season loss was to Seneca Valley. They quickly got payback though as they beat the Raiders in the WPIAL championship match and also in the state playoffs.
