To say that the Fox Chapel Area High School track team had a good day at the WPIAL track and field championships on Thursday at Baldwin would be an understatement of large proportions.
The Foxes returned home with four gold medals and a host of qualifiers for the PIAA championships this weekend at Shippensburg University.
Ethan Martin finished first in the 1,600 and 3,200. His brother, Colin, finished second in the 1,600 and third in the 3,200.
“Twins finishing first and second at the WPIAL championships — that has to be unprecedented,” FC coach Tom Moul said.
Both runners will only compete in the 3,200 at states.
Juniors Brandon Mitchell and Brian Papich also had big days. Mitchell took first in the 300 hurdles and third in the 110 high hurdles, while Papich was second in the long jump and fourth in the high jump. The boys 4-by-4 relay team (Mitchell, Papich, Mike Mawhinney and Elias Graca) also took first place.
