Elias Graca had success competing in indoor track and field this winter without a lot of strenuous workouts. With the outdoor season ready to begin, he is getting ready to ramp up his preparation — and is eager to see what the extra work can do.

After following up his breakout 2014 outdoor season by placing second at the Pennsylvania State Track and Field Coaches Indoor Championships earlier this month, the Fox Chapel senior hopes to carry that momentum further this spring.

“Indoor was nice to do well in, but it’s not what’s most important,” said Graca, a Penn recruit. “Outdoor is obviously the big focus. I’m thinking when I really start putting in the work for outdoor, I can only see my times getting better.”

Graca’s time of 1 minute, 50.86 seconds in the 800-meter run at the indoor state championships ranks second in Pennsylvania and third in the country, according to dyestat.com.
