Robby Shymansky and Siddharth Rajupet showed the world just how difficult the tryouts were at Fox Chapel this season.
Shymansky, the No. 1 freshman in the state and the top seed in the Section 3 tournament, rolled into the finals where he met Rajupet, the No. 4 finisher in the PIAA Class AAA singles finals a year ago and the No. 4 senior in Pennsylvania. The two staged one of the best battles for a section title in recent memory. In a three-set thriller, Shymansky pulled out a 7-6 (9-7), 3-6, 6-3 win to earn his first section title.
Both players qualified for the WPIAL singles finals, which will open on Monday [April 11].
