The top-ranked Fox Chapel boys soccer team kept its unbeaten streak alive Oct. 6 and also clinched the Section 3-AAA crown with a 4-1 road win over Gateway. The Foxes didn’t waste much time getting into the attack early, as Jung Hong drew a foul near the right edge of the box that set up a free kick opportunity in the fifth minute of the match.
Nathan Wecht’s service to the far post was headed by Kota Furuhata into the back of the net for the early 1-0 lead. The Foxes (12-0, 10-0) added first half goals by Michael Snowball, his team-leading 18th of the season, and Hong to take a commanding 3-0 lead into the half.
Shortly after Gateway cut the lead to 3-1 late in the second half, the Foxes responded as team captain Furuhata added his second goal with seven minutes remaining to secure the section clinching win.
Oct. 8 was Senior Night and the Foxes honored seniors Holden Armor, Dom DiMatteo, Furuhata, Jason Krysinsky, Elliott Norman, Ben Santilli, Yardin Soloman, Zach Wiegand, Teddy Wight and Carlo Vignali before the game against Penn Hills.
The Foxes rolled to a 5-0 win as Hong and Carson Cohen each scored two goals and Snowball scored his 19th. J.D. Dunn recorded his fifth shutout in goal.
