Sid Rajupet placed third in the WPIAL Class AAA singles tournament back in April, and almost matched that finish at states last weekend.
The Fox Chapel junior finished fourth at the PIAA Class AAA singles tournament, which took place Friday and Saturday in Hershey. Both of Rajupet’s losses at states came against WPIAL foes.
Rajupet opened the tournament with consecutive straight-set victories against Emmaus’ Matt FitzMaurice and Lower Merion’s Simon Vernier. In the semifinals, Rajupet ran into Latrobe senior Chad Kissell, the WPIAL champion, and Kissell defeated Rajupet 6-4, 6-1.
The loss dropped Rajupet into the consolation match, where he lost to Canon-McMillan junior Chris Gladden 6-3, 6-3.
