The doubles duo of Amanda Nord and Charlotte James of Fox Chapel won gold in Class AAA by defeating Devin and Erin Gramley of neighboring Shady Side Academy, 6-0, 6-2, in the final.
In the doubles final, Nord and James were in control the entire match.
“I think we both played them pretty well. We’ve played them before, so we knew what to do, and we just went out and executed,” James said. “We did exactly what we were supposed to do.
Nord, a junior, was in Hershey a year ago but plugged in with the freshman James this fall from the go.
“This year, I knew what it was all about because of last year,” Nord said. “I was really excited to get back. I have a really good partner here, and that made it all the more exciting.”
James said: “We met at the beginning of the season, and we’ve just become so close. On the court, being close can really do wonders. Our game styles don’t clash. It works really well.”
Nord and James reached the final by defeating Sophia Fischer and Joanna Kwon of Council Rock North, 6-0, 6-0, earlier Saturday. The Gramleys reached the final by taking out Alexis Cramer and Corine Grohoski of Exeter, 7-6 (3), 7-5.
