Fox Chapel is No. 1 in the Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association rankings, and the Foxes continued to justify that lofty position Thursday night.
Jaysen Zaleski had 10 kills, Matt Herrmann added eight and Andrew Tublin had six as visiting Fox Chapel (3-0, 3-0) knocked off eight-time defending WPIAL champion North Allegheny, 3-0, in a Section 2-AAA match. It marked the Foxes’ first victory over North Allegheny (0-2, 0-2) in a best-of-five match in 12 years.
The Foxes won all three sets by 25-14 scores. Ben DePellegrini added eight aces to lead the team. Fox Chapel also won the North Allegheny Tournament over the weekend, defeating defending PIAA champion Central York for the title. The team is ranked first in the state for the first time since 2006.
