After 32 years as head football coach at South Park High School, which included a pair of state championships, Tom Loughran is hoping for some of the same success at Fox Chapel.
Loughran, a 61-year-old Oakmont resident, made the playoffs 14 times during his tenure and won 186 games along with a pair of WPIAL championships.
Even though practice hasn’t started, he’s pleased with what he’s seen of his team so far at offseason workouts.
“They’ve been working hard over the last few months, and there’s been good participation in offseason training and conditioning,” he said. “We took them to a seven-on-seven drill last week in Waynesburg, and I thought they did OK.”
A lot of time will be spent on getting the players used to a new system both on offense and defense.
“We’re still behind as far as installing technique on both sides of the ball,” Loughran said. “The staff has spent a lot of time watching tapes from last year, not so much to see what we did but to see what other teams did against us.”
