The Fox Chapel boys basketball team is hoping history will repeat itself.
After starting the season 4-6 a year ago, the Foxes caught fire all the way to the Class AAAA WPIAL semifinals.
Fox Chapel is in the same boat this year, entering the week 3-9 overall and 1-5 in Section 2, heading into Wednesday night’s home contest against Armstrong that was originally scheduled for Tuesday.
“Last year we started 3-7,” seventh-year coach Zach Skrinjar said. “Every year is different. Every team is different. Guys have experiences but this year is a different journey. We are trusting each other to put in the effort. There is still a lot of basketball left to play. We need to prove ourselves in the second half of the season. We are moving forward one game at a time.”
Although it might not seem like it by looking at their record, the Foxes have been one of the more competitive teams in the WPIAL.
Luck has not been on the Foxes side, losing five of their games by four points or less and eight of their losses by single digits.
“It’s frustrating,” Skrinjar said. “I’m a believer. The majority of games come down to three possessions. Unfortunately we haven’t found a way to win those possessions. We are striving to working on getting better.
