It was a long 2015 season for veteran coach Tom Loughran, who took over at Fox Chapel after a long, successful career at South Park.
“I didn’t think it would take nine games to get a win,” he said of finishing 1-8. “We had some games where the opportunities were there for us, and we just didn’t follow through on them. We’re looking to change that this year.”
The Foxes will compete in Class 5A’s Allegheny 9 Conference, and Loughran is optimistic.
“From a numbers standpoint, we’re now in a conference that we are more in alignment with numbers-wise,” he said. “We feel we’re capable of being competitive.”
Part of that optimism stems from the returning players. The Foxes graduated their top two running backs, but senior quarterback Dimitri Spina returns, along with leading receiver Conner Romango, also a senior.
“Aside from those two, we have a lot of starters returning,” Loughran said. “All five offensive linemen will be back, along with two defensive linemen. We also have a returning linebacker and defensive back. A lot of kids got a lot of playing time last year, and that will benefit us.”
