The WPIAL Class AAA and AA track and field championships were held at Baldwin on May 18.
In the Class AAA girls competition, Fox Chapel’s Kate Carnevale finished fourth in the 100-meter dash and second in the 200 and qualified for the PIAA championship meet in both events. Caelan Miller came in fourth in the 1,600 and also qualified for states. Sarena Seeger finished fifth in the 3,200 while Annika Urban was seventh in the 3,200.
Girls lacrosse
The undefeated Fox Chapel girls lacrosse team opened up the WPIAL Class AAA playoffs with a 12-9 win over Upper St. Clair in the quarterfinals May 17. Ali Wessel led the scoring with four goals, while Kate Goodwin and Meg McCrady each had three goals and an assist. Mikayla D’Cunha added a goal and an assist, Mary Ellis made four assists, Marissa Hardiman contributed a pair of assists and Sloan Rost scored a goal. Makenzie Miller made three saves in goal as the Foxes improved to 19-0.
Boys tennis
WPIAL champion Fox Chapel, the 2016 PIAA runner-up, was ousted in the state quarterfinals 3-1 by District 1 third-place finisher Great Valley on Friday. Karsten Lagerquist and Jay Kashyap won their match at second doubles 6-2, 6-1.
