The Fox Chapel football team picked up its second straight victory Friday night after defeating Hampton, 41-7, in a Class 5A Allegheny 9 Conference contest.

Nick Gizzo scored on runs of 7, 32 and 71 yards and ran for 164 yards on 13 carries to lead the Foxes (2-5, 2-4).

Micah Morris added two touchdown runs, and Luke Brown and Max Smith also scored for Fox Chapel.

The Foxes return to action at 7 p.m. Friday at Baldwin (2-4, 1-4), which is coming off a 28-21 win over Connellsville.

Cross country

The Fox Chapel cross country team took part in the Mack Cooper Invitational on Saturday at Slippery Rock. Both FC teams took first place.

For the girls, Annika Urban finished in a first-place tie with teammate Sarena Seeger. Caelan Miller finished sixth, and Brooke Krally finished 10th. Other FC runners were Anna Folkerts, Izzy Doerr, Megan Stafford, Grace Sisson, Margaret Edgecombe and Ziya Xu.

On the boys side, Christian Fitch finished third and Adam Cook finished eighth. Other FC runners were John Folkerts, Greg Overbeck, Ian Brown and Avery Bursick.

Girls tennis

The semifinals of the WPIAL Class AAA girls tennis championships were held Oct. 4, and Fox Chapel fell to Mt. Lebanon, 3-2. Amanda Nord and Charlotte James posted wins in singles for the Foxes. The Foxes rebounded to beat Pine-Richland, 3-2, on Oct. 6 in the third-place match with Nord, James and Kristen Friday earning wins. The Foxes improved to 14-4 and qualified for the PIAA tournament.

Field hockey

Fox Chapel field hockey breezed to a 10-0 shutout of Oakland Catholic on Oct. 3, with Abby Pitcairn leading the way with a pair of goals and an assist. Meg McCrady and Megan Botos each had a goal and an assist, while Mia Jamolkowski, Paige Ryan, Sydney Condron, Brianna Lucas, Katie Mcilroy and Isabella lagazzi all had one goal. Grace Knepshield added an assist. The FC defense did not allow a shot on goal.

The Foxes ended their week with a 2-0 shutout of Ellis School on Oct. 5 as Knepshield picked up a goal and an assist and Condron also scored. Marissa Hardiman had two saves in goal.

Girls volleyball

The Fox Chapel girls volleyball team had a pair of matches last week. On Oct. 4, they played at Penn Hills and won 3-0. Megan Friday had 12 kills, Dominique Buccigrossi had 15 assists, Jocelyn Eckenrode had three blocks, Desirae Buccigrossi had 10 digs and Katie Kenney had three aces.

The Foxes traveled to Canon-McMillan on Oct. 6 and lost 3-1. Desirae Buccigrossi had 24 digs, Shannon Fisher had seven Kills, Dominique Buccigrossi had 13 assists and four aces and Katie Kenney had four blocks.

Swimming

Aspinwall resident Zoe Skirboll recently broke a pool record at South Park High School on Oct. 1. The 12-year old, who was competing for Racer X Aquatics, broke a record in the women’s 11-12 age group 100 breaststroke at 1:08.97. The previous pool record was set in 2006.
