Expecting to get a rematch with Mt. Lebanon, the Fox Chapel girls basketball team was served a surprise opponent for their first WPIAL semifinal appearance since 2009.
Seventh-seeded Penn-Trafford stunned perennial power and No. 2 seed Mt. Lebanon, 32-24, holding the Panthers to two — as in one plus one equals — points in the first half of Friday’s Class AAAA quarterfinal.
While that stunner was taking shape farther down Route 19 at North Hills, Fox Chapel was pushing past a sound Norwin team, the No. 6 seed, 55-51, at North Allegheny.
Fox Chapel (19-4) will play Penn-Trafford (18-6) at 6 p.m. on Tuesday at Penn Hills in the WPIAL semifinals.
