The PIAA cross country championships were held recently and Fox Chapel’s freshman duo of Annika Urban and Sareena Seeger fared well.
Seeger finished in 27th place, two places shy of a medal, and Urban was 53rd. Seeger was the second-highest finishing freshman and Urban was fourth. They were the first FC freshmen to qualify for states since 2007.
“I’m really proud of these girls,” FC coach Tom Moul said. “To my knowledge, we’ve never had two freshmen qualify in the same year. Performing at such a high level at the biggest meet in the state was pretty amazing. There were 230 runners, all high-level competitors, and 200 of them were upperclassmen. To perform as well as they did was outstanding.”
