For most of the 2015 season, the WPIAL Section 3-AAA champion Fox Chapel Foxes have stood atop the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s Class AAA boys soccer rankings.
But the end of the season was not kind to the Foxes. They lost their first game of the season last week when they fell to Franklin Regional, 2-1. Four days later they could only muster a 0-0 tie against Class AA South Park to finish with a 14-1-1 record after beginning the season with 13 consecutive victories.
A shutout and a loss in which the deciding goal was scored in the closing seconds would be a cause of concern to most coaches. Ask Fox Chapel coach Erik Ingram about it, though, and one might think they were talking to Alfred E. Neuman: “What, me worry?”
“I think when we get to the playoffs it will be a matter of clicking on all cylinders. If I get all 11 guys playing at the same time, I think there are probably only a few teams that can stay with us,” said Ingram.
