UNIVERSITY PARK — Fox Chapel had another five-set match in its sights. Parkland took it away.
A steady comeback in the fourth set gave the WPIAL champion Foxes a brief lead, but Parkland responded with its own rally to snuff out their season, 3-1, in the PIAA Class AAA championship match at Penn State’s Rec Hall.
Fox Chapel (19-2) won in five sets in its previous two matches — against Bethel Park in the PIAA quarterfinals and Seneca Valley in the PIAA semifinals — but couldn’t reach that point Saturday.
“You’ve got to stay constant with not getting too high or too low; you’ve got to be collected throughout the game,” senior Andrew Tublin said. “I think any team would get pumped up when you had the sort of momentum we did late in the fourth game. I don’t think we dropped off when we lost a few points at the end of the fourth game.”
