The Plum Mustangs came to town Friday night and discovered first-hand that the Fox Chapel football team that finished the season Friday is definitely not the same team that started with five straight losses.
The Foxes cruised to a 42-7 win to finish with a 5-5 record. They led 21-7 at the half and 35-7 after three quarters. Once again, junior running back Micah Morris was the catalyst on offense, as he powered his way to 183 yards rushing on 25 carries and touchdown runs of 5, 13 and 5 yards.
Dimitri Spina stepped in at quarterback for the injured Nick Gizzo and completed six passes for 100 yards and a 14-yard touchdown strike to Connor Romango. Romango also returned an interception 14 yards for a score. Cole Waxler added a 70-yard touchdown run, and Jerett Zaleski had six PATs.
“We became a focused team in the second half of the season,” FC coach Tom Loughran said. “We decided that we were going to concentrate on winning the rest of our games, taking them one at a time. It turns out we developed into a pretty good football team.
“Morris became a very good player once he got into the lineup as did Nick Gizzo, and I can’t say enough about the maturation of our offensive line.
“It was a great way to finish the season and our confidence will carry into next year.”
