FC Girls Lose on Penalty Kicks

Fox Chapel came close to scoring the goal that would send the team to the WPIAL finals but couldn’t find the back of the net.

The Foxes similarly couldn’t come up with the winning save in the shootout that followed.

Upper St. Clair’s final shooter, Rachel Witte, scored the winning penalty kick as the No. 3 Panthers upended the No. 7 Foxes, 1-0, in a shootout in a WPIAL Class AAA semifinal Monday at Linton Middle School in Penn Hills.

“We had some great chances in the game. We had some balls scoot right across the goal, but their goalkeeper came up big,” Fox Chapel coach Peter Torres said. “We just couldn’t quite get it done. You hate to take the skill out of the game and put it into the hands of a few shooters and a goalkeeper that’s given a task of trying to do the impossible, but that’s unfortunately how it went.”
