Fox Chapel had gotten pushed around a bit by teams late in the season, so it wasn’t a huge surprise when North Hills scored a quick goal 2:20 into the game to take an early lead on the Foxes.
That was also the only time the Indians found the back of the net.
Fox Chapel (20-0-1) showed why it had the best record in the PIHL this season as it ripped off five unanswered goals —including a pair from Tommy Healy — and goaltender Nash Wedner made 24 saves as the top-seeded Foxes opened the PIHL Class 1A playoffs with a 5-1 win over No. 8 North Hills (12-9-0) at Alpha Ice.
“Honestly we just stuck to our game plan,” Fox Chapel coach Cam Raidna said. “We knew that, if we stuck to our game plan, things would likely go our way.”
