Fox Chapel Area High School lacrosse players Mikayla D’Cunha, Kate Goodwin and Meg McCrady have been selected to play on the Western Pennsylvania National Tournament team, while their coach, Jen McCrady, was appointed to lead the team for the second consecutive year. Mikayla and Meg also made the team last season.
The Western PA team will compete against other regional squads from across the United States in conjunction with the NCAA Womens’ Lacrosse Final Four tournament. All games will be played over Memorial Day at Lehigh University.
Just a junior, Meg already holds the lacrosse team’s career scoring record at Fox Chapel Area High School. So far, she has tallied 153 goals and 71 assists. Mikayla, also a junior, is consistently one of the team’s top three scorers and, so far in her career, has 62 goals and 14 assists. Coach McCrady says Kate, a sophomore, is having a great breakout year and has scored 26 goals and 10 assists so far this season.
“All three of these girls are a major part of our 2016 success and will clearly lead the way in 2017,” says Coach McCrady. “I am excited to coach this all star team one more time, as it is an honor to lead the best players in the WPIAL on a national stage. We expect them to do very well again this year. Last year’s team made it to the championship game of their division.”
Coach McCrady has led the girls’ lacrosse team at Fox Chapel Area High School for seven years and last fall completed her eighth season as head coach of the girls’ field hockey team. Her 2015 field hockey team was the 2015 WPIAL champions and altogether her teams have won five field hockey section titles. In addition, last year Mrs. McCrady was named the female Heinz Ward Positive Coach recipient, an award initiated by the former Pittsburgh Steeler to recognize the efforts of coaches who are role models and positive influences in high school athletics.
