Gil Damico served 29 years as the Fox Chapel Area athletic director and hailed the late Rich Kriston as the “best pure athlete” he ever saw.
Ron Frank, a wrestling and baseball coach, said Kriston had more than 40 touchdowns as a running back for the high school, was a starting linebacker at Penn State in the 1970s and a two-time section champ in wrestling.
“He was a tremendous athlete and an even better individual,” Frank said.
Kriston, 58, of O’Hara, died last year following a battle with Huntingdon’s Disease. His classmates and many others in the community will honor Kriston’s athletic career by creating a scholarship in his name.
