The Fox Chapel Area High School boys’ and girls’ cross country teams swept the Gateway Invitational over Labor Day weekend when both teams brought home first place finishes.
Individually, sophomore Annika Urban took first place overall. Sophomore Sarena Seeger won second place and junior Caelan Miller finished third. During the past two years, Caelan qualified for the PIAA championship in track, but this is her first year running cross country.
For the boys’ team, freshman Christian Fitch came in at third place.
“I was very pleased with our performance, especially the girls’ 1-2- 3 finish,” says Coach Tom Moul, “and Christian finishing third overall was a pleasant surprise too.”
Other members of the girls’ team who ran the event were juniors Margaret Edgecombe and Megan Stafford; sophomore Anna Folkerts; and freshman Brooke Krally.
In addition to Christian, other boys’ team runners who took part in the invitational were senior Adam Cook; junior John Folkerts; and sophomores Ian Brown, Avery Bursick, and Greg Overbeck
