Erin Mathias first got noticed by Duke University way back before her freshman year, and now the Fox Chapel Area High School girls’ basketball star has made it official. Last night she gave her written commitment to attend the basketball powerhouse next year as a full scholarship recruit.
ESPN has ranked Erin as a five-star recruit, the ninth best girls center in the country and 38th overall. Also, according to ESPN’s top 100 list of all girls’ high school basketball players, scouts graded Erin a 97, with the highest grade awarded for the class of 2014 being a 98.
Last year, 6 ‘4” Erin was a Pennsylvania Sportswriters’ Class AAAA All-State first team selection and was nominated for the Gatorade National Player of the Year. She is believed to be the first girls’ basketball player in the history of Fox Chapel Area High School voted to the All-State first team. Her return last year, after missing her entire sophomore season due to injury, was instrumental in helping the Lady Foxes reach an 18-6 record and the WPIAL quarterfinals.
In the meantime, she is anxiously looking forward to December 9, 2013, when the Lady Foxes play their first game of season in a matchup against Baldwin High School.
Congratulations, Erin and good luck to the entire Lady Foxes basketball team during the 2013-2014 season!
