Mathias has started five of 11 games for the Duke University women’s basketball team. Mathias is a 6-foot-4 junior forward-center from Fox Chapel High School and a former Post-Gazette Fabulous 5 selection. She entered the week with averages of 6.5 points and 4.3 rebounds a game. She was shooting 53 percent from the field and 81 percent from the free-throw line. Mathias had scored in double figures in two games this season and had 10 rebounds in another.
A strong player … she can play inside and out … has a three ball that she can pull now and again … is getting more aggressive … a competitor and very focused.
As a Sophomore (2015-16): Started three of her 30 games played … averaged 1.8 points and 1.7 rebounds … netted a season-high eight points at North Carolina in 17 minutes, while hitting 4-of-5 field goals … pulled down a season-high five boards versus Texas State and at Pittsburgh.
As a Freshman (2014-15): Appeared in 27 games off the bench as a rookie for the Blue Devils … notched a career-high 11 points and six rebounds in 18 minutes against Buffalo early in the season … saw increased minutes late in the season … totaled six points and two rebounds in 10 minutes during the NCAA Tournament first round against Albany … dished two assists against N.C. A&T … hit all three of her field goal attempts versus Albany.
