PITTSBURGH, Pa – SEPTEMBER 20th, 2016 – This week’s Cougar Athletes of the week are First Year Elayna Burdelski, women’s soccer, and First Year Devin Seka, men’s cross country. The Cougar Athlete of the week is a weekly award based on outstanding performance from the previous week of competition. Let’s get to know our Cougar Athletes of the week!
Elayna Burdelski recorded shutouts during the entirety of her playing time. In the first half against Medaille on 9/13, Burdelski made three saves, and on 9/17 she made seven saves to put the Cougars up 1-0 over the Franciscan Barons. When asked about goals for the season Burdelski said “I want our team go further into the PAC playoffs and get more wins than last year. Personally, I want to keep up the shutouts and keep it under five goals on me for the season.” She was asked to describe her team, her response was “The team is very comfortable with one another and can take constructive criticism very well. It makes us better because we take the criticism and are able to put it on the field. We push each other to improve. We have good talent this year, we just have to put all that talent together. We have the potential to be really good!” Now for some fun facts about her, “My best memory at Chatham so far was actually yesterday. At practice we played a game called pirates. There were blow up sharks and dolphins. We had to get across the sea without getting hit by cannonballs (soccer balls). It was so much fun!” If Burdelski could be any animal she would definitely be a cat, “I am obsessed with cats. I love them. They get to sleep all day and eat and cuddle.”
