Fox Chapel girls tennis beat Oakland Catholic, 4-1, on Sept. 4. Kristen Friday, Carissa Shepard and Emily Fera won in singles and Baylin Bitar/Paige Theoret posted a doubles win.
The Foxes swept Woodland Hills on Sept. 5 but saw their record drop to 7-2 as they fell to Sewickley Academy, 4-1, on Sept. 7. Lexi Quackenbush and Katie Voigt won in doubles.
Girls volleyball
Fox Chapel girls volleyball opened the season Sept. 4 with a 3-0 (25-16, 25-21, 25-15) win over Seneca Valley.
“All the girls played well, especially Eras Yager and Jessica Michael,” FC coach Phil O’Keeffe said.
The Foxes hosted Pine-Richland on Sept. 6 and lost 3-0 (25-15, 25-14, 25-17).
“It is still very early in the season, and the girls have made a lot of improvement over last year,” O’Keeffe said. “We’re hoping a few key wins under their belts will give them confidence moving forward in a newer, tougher section than last year.”
Boys soccer
Fox Chapel boys soccer improved to 2-2 overall and 1-1 in Section 1-4A with a 7-0 win over Shaler on Sept. 6. Zane Ingram scored three goals to lead the way. Alex Marotte, Tommy Psai, Charlie Smith and Ty Welty also scored. Robby Tabor and Clayton Humbert combined for the shutout in goal.
Girls soccer
Fox Chapel girls soccer fell to Butler, 3-2, on Sept. 5 in the Section 1-4A opener. Sarah Sinnott and Lucy Ream scored for the Foxes, who dropped to 1-1 overall and 0-1 in section play.
Boys golf
In a Section 4-3A tri-match Sept. 6, Fox Chapel beat Franklin Regional, 190-199, and Plum, 199-228.
Amani Dambrosio paced the Foxes with a 37, followed by Gregor Meyer, Aidan Oehrle and Matt Mattioli at 38 and Scott Bitar and Owen McManus at 39.
Field hockey
Fox Chapel field hockey began the season with a 1-0 overtime loss to Ellis School on Sept. 4. The Foxes then posted a 2-1 win over Mt. Lebanon on Sept. 6. Ellie Markel and Sloan Rost scored goals while Marissa Hardiman made 10 saves in goal.
Cross country
Fox Chapel runners took part in the Red, White and Blue Invitational at Schenley Park on Sept. 7. There were 60 teams and 250 runners in both the boys and the girls races.
The Fox Chapel girls finished in second place, with Sarena Seeger finishing second, Grace Sisson in fifth place, Brooke Krally coming in 12th and Annika Urban finishing in 16th place. Two runners won medals in the freshman race as Riley McIntyre was seventh and Gabby Kline finished 11th.
In the boys race, Christian Fitch placed third while Ethan Napolitan took 10th in the boys freshman race.
