Christian Fitch and Kate Carnevale were the top finishers for the Foxes’ at the Butler Invitational track and field meet held Friday, April 20. More than 60 teams participated at the event.
Christian, a sophomore, placed second in the 3,200, while junior sprinter Kate was third in the 100.
Other medalists included the boys’ 4 x 100 relay team, which finished in fifth place. Team members are seniors Andrew Jeffrey, Wonho Kang, and Ben Kronman, and junior Cole Waxter. In addition, senior Dom McGriff placed eighth in the triple jump.
For the girls’ team, senior Caelan Miller took sixth place in the 1,600, and junior Sarena Seeger placed sixth in the 3,200.
The 4 x 400 girls’ relay team finished sixth. Members are Caelan, juniors Abby Baldauf and Carolyn Veith, and sophomore Maddy Kieffer. The girls’ 4 x 800 relay team of Sarena, fellow junior Annika Urban, and sophomores Brooke Krally and Grace Sisson, took eighth place.
According to head coach Tom Moul, almost all of the distance runners set personal records that day, and Caelan, Sarena, and Christian actually hit the marks for state qualifying. Even so, they still must perform well at the WPIAL championships in order to move on to the PIAA championships.
“Three relays making it to the medal stand was great, and the individual medals were even more impressive because that invite was loaded with talent from around the region,” says Coach Moul. “I’m excited to see how these kids and relay teams can do as we move into the final month of the season.”
