Senior wrestler Mike Mahon, junior swimmer Joslyn Filo, and sophomore diver Jonah Cagley will represent Fox Chapel Area High School in their respective PIAA championships, all of which will be held in the next two weeks.
Mike will return to the PIAA wrestling championship for the second consecutive year after winning the bronze medal in the 182-pound weight class at the WPIAL 3A championship. Prior to that, Mike won the WPIAL 3A section title and also earned his 100th career-victory this season. The PIAA wrestling championships will be held March 8-11 in Hershey, PA.
At the recent WPIAL swimming championships, Joslyn won the silver medal in the 50-yard freestyle and placed seventh in the 100 free. Both times qualified her to advance to the PIAA swimming championships at Bucknell University on March 16-18. This season Joslyn also broke a 25-year-old school record in the 50 freestyle and another in the 100 butterfly.
Jonah is the first Fox Chapel Area High School diver to become a WPIAL champion. As a freshman, Jonah won the WPIAL 3A silver medal and advanced to the PIAA diving championship. This season, he broke the school scoring record in diving and in the summer of 2016 placed second at the AAU national championship. The state diving championships will be held Saturday, March 18, also at Bucknell University.
