The Fox Chapel girls basketball team is coming off a 13-8 season last year, including a 9-3 mark in section play.
Coach Jennifer O’Shea’s team will be competing in a new section (2-6A) with new opponents. There also will be new faces in the Foxes’ lineup as senior Gabby Badway, a 5-foot-8 guard, and senior 5-7 guard Bryanna Urso are the only returning starters.
“They are both good leaders,” O’Shea said. “Gabby made first team all-section last year. We also have Claudia Guererri (5-3, Jr., G), who saw a lot of varsity minutes last year. We have a very young team, but they work hard and are unselfish.
“It will be a challenge for us being in a new section. It’s a strong section, and I think Penn Hills and Norwin will be the teams to beat. It will be a very competitive section, and we have to come ready to play every night.”
The rest of the roster includes juniors Maddie Flanigan (5-7, G), Sarah Sheerer (5-8, G), Krystyna Burdelski (5-9, F) and Samantha Carnevali (5-5, G); sophomores Channing Thomas (5-4, G), Danielle Moretti (5-7, G), Grace Ritter (5-8, F), Kate Carnevale (5-7, G), Jessica Paper (5-8, G) and Megan Friday (5-11, F); and freshmen Lizzy Giuffre (5-3, G), Gabby Guererri (5-3, G), Kyrie Nestel (5-6, G) and Claire Fenton (5-3, G).
“We will be a young team as far as experience,” O’Shea said. “Our goal will be to improve in every game and at every practice.”
