The Fox Chapel boys and girls cross country teams finished their season last week, and coach Tom Moul felt it was a satisfying campaign and is optimistic about next season.
“The boys improved over last year and finished eighth at WPIALs as compared to 11th last year,” he said. “They finished first in two invitationals. We’ll only lose one senior in Adam Cook, and we’ll have sophomores Avery Bursick, John Brown and Greg Overbeck returning, along with junior John Folkerts and freshman Christian Fitch.
“The girls team has been a delight to work with, as well. They have overachieved on almost every goal that was set at the beginning of the season. They had first place finishes in two invitationals and a second place finish at WPIALs. We had four girls finish in the top 20 at the WPIAL meet and one of them, Sarena Seeger, medaled at states.”
The Fox Chapel girls finished 14th at the WPIAL championships.
“(It wasn’t) quite what we’d hoped for, but I’m extremely proud of what these girls accomplished this season,” Moul said. “They are a great bunch of girls with a fantastic work ethic. And to make it even better, we are not losing any girls to graduation. The whole team will be back.”
Along with Seeger, a sophomore, Moul will welcome back sophomores Annika Urban and Anna Folkerts, juniors Caelan Miller and Megan Stafford and freshmen Brooke Krally, Grace Sisson and Isabelle Doerr.
