Lisa Hess took over as coach of the Fox Chapel softball team last year and hopes to generate some interest in younger players for upcoming seasons.
“One of my biggest initiatives this off-season is to train our school district’s young talent and to get them involved in the program early,” she said. “We are promoting a positive championship culture and are getting our high school team involved with this, as well.”
A pitching and hitting clinic was held in September and recently there was a defensive fundamentals clinic. Throughout the fall and winter, clinics are scheduled on six Saturdays with two-hour instructional workouts for 7-to 13-year old players.
“Last year was a ‘get my feet wet’ kind of year and this year it will be full steam ahead,” she said. “So far, the clinics have been well-attended, and we anticipate that the attendance will continue to grow as word gets out.”
Clinics will be held on Saturday, Dec. 17, Jan. 14, Jan. 28, Feb. 4 and Feb. 11. They will be held at the Fox Chapel High School auxiliary gym from 1-3 p.m.
