The Peter Sauer Memorial tournament was held at Shady Side Academy last week.
In opening action Dec. 28, Fox Chapel’s boys basketball team could not hang onto a 51-43 lead entering the fourth quarter and lost to Butler, 67-65. Mike Zappala led the Foxes with 17 points and Jake Livingston added 16. Shady Side Academy beat Riverside, 52-46.
On Dec. 29, The Foxes faced West Allegheny while SSA hosted Northgate. The Foxes, led by 18 points from Zappala and 12 from Livingston, won 61-43. They led 31-16 at the half. SSA cruised to an 81-46 win over Northgate behind 28 points from Etai Groff.
The final game of the tournament featured a neighborhood matchup between Fox Chapel and Shady Side Academy. The Foxes outscored SSA 19-11 in the final quarter to pull away for a 51-36 win. Zappala led all scorers with 13 points and Livingston pitched in with 10. Groff led SSA with 11 points. The Foxes will head into the new year with a 3-7 record while the Indians stand 8-3.
