Two weeks into the season, the Fox Chapel baseball team stood atop the Section 1-AAAA standings with a perfect 3-0 start.
The Foxes, who made it to the WPIAL playoffs for the first time in six years last season, opened their schedule with a 3-2 decision March 22 against Bethel Park. They went on to slip past Shaler, 5-4, before beating Penn Hills, 8-2, last week.
Despite losing eight seniors to graduation from last season, Fox Chapel still welcomed back a core of experienced returning players, including seniors pitcher/outfielder Chad Bartlett, outfielder Connor Duquette and first baseman Anthony Veltri. Juniors outfielder Greg Yaksich, pitcher/outfielder Josh Dunlap, third base and Daniel Vargo and pitcher/infielder David Brown as well as sophomores shortstop Josh Anderson, pitcher/infielder Jacob Pilarski and catcher Zach Burkhart also returned this season.
