Senior basketball star Matt D’Amico is just one point away from a major milestone in his high school basketball career — scoring his 1,000th point.
A varsity starter for all four years, the 6’2” guard most surely will become only the seventh boy’s basketball player in school history to reach the 1,000 point mark when the Foxes host McKeesport Area High School at 7:30 p.m., Friday, December 13.
“Matt is one of those kids who is usually the last one to leave the gym after practice,” says head coach Zachary Skrinjar.” He is a tireless worker who loves basketball and is a real student of the game.
“On the court, he is a hard player to guard because he has a great skill set for high school. He’s very good off the dribble, can work off of his teammates, is becoming much better at passing, and when he’s at the foul line, it’s almost an automatic two points because that’s how accurate he is.”
Last season, Matt concluded the year averaging 21.2 points per game and was the second leading scorer in WPIAL AAAA boys’ basketball. Even this early in the 2013-2014 season, he already is on a similar trajectory to take his place as one of the best players in the conference.
Good luck to Matt and the entire 2013-2014 boys’ basketball team!
