Abby Pitcairn, a freshman midfielder, was instrumental in helping the Fox Chapel field hockey team compile a 14-3-1 record and earn the No. 2 seed in the WPIAL Class AA playoffs.
She led the team in scoring with 26 goals and 17 assists. For her efforts, she is The Herald Spotlight Athlete of the Week.
The numbers don’t show it, but Pitcairn said she felt the freshman jitters early.
“I was nervous in the first few games, but then I got over it,” she said.
She is planning to go out for the track team in the spring and possibly run the mile or the 800-meter run.
