Updated Guidance for FCASD Winter Sports

Dear Parents and Guardians,

As we enter the winter sports season, I would like to share a few reminders with you.

First, I want to remind our student-athletes and their families that we are taking every precaution to make our programs as safe as possible in this unprecedented environment. Our resocialization of sports plan, which was reapproved by the Fox Chapel Area School Board on November 9, can be found here. The plan outlines the expectations for all who coach and participate in athletics in the Fox Chapel Area School District during the COVID-19 pandemic. We are following guidelines recommended by Gov. Tom Wolf, the Pennsylvania Department of Health, the National Federation of High Schools (NFHS), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the PIAA, the state’s interscholastic sports governing body. This plan will be updated as more guidelines and information become available.

Currently, we also are focusing our efforts on protocols for pre-participation sports physical exams, concussion baseline testing, and daily sports medicine activities that promote a safe environment.

Please keep in mind that it will take a village to reach our collective desired and successful outcomes. This means that, while we aggressively are doing our part here at the middle and high schools, we need everyone’s cooperation in abiding by COVID-19 hygiene practices, such as frequent handwashing, wearing masks, and social distancing as much as possible. Our goal is to be able to stay open for athletics. Our collective efforts to take appropriate and recommended precautions can help us achieve this goal.

Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns.

Go Foxes!

Michael L. O’Brien
Director of Athletics
