The past weeks have been busy ones for the Foxes’ track and field teams as they’ve worked hard to improve before the May 16 WPIAL Class AAA championships. Between the Baldwin Invitational, which attracted 60 schools, and the Pine-Richland Invitational that hosted 1,200 athletes, the Foxes came home with three new school records, one gold,...
When Director of Athletics Michael O’Brien told Marissa Hardiman that she had won one of only 10 $1,000 WPIAL scholarships awarded to female athletes, she was pretty surprised. She shouldn’t have been, because the tri-sport scholar athlete has excelled at just about everything she’s done since beginning her freshman year at Fox Chapel Area High...
With senior sprinter Kate Carnevale leading the way with four medals, many of her teammates from the Foxes’ varsity boys’ and girls’ track and field teams also did well at the 55th Butler Invitational that drew more than 1,600 participants and 72 schools. The event was so large, even more so than the WPIAL championships,...
Robby Shymansky is a five-star college tennis recruit and is classified among the top 50 boys singles players in the country. He proved, once again, that there’s credence in those rankings by winning a back-to-back WPIAL singles title on Tuesday, April 16. Just a week beforehand, he earned his fourth WPIAL Class AAA Section 3...

Yet, without their contributions, no team could be nearly as successful. These players are the...
To be honest, when you first see the Kieffer triplets – Abby, Maddie and Evan – you would never guess that they are related, much less a trio. They don’t look alike, they all have their individual personalities, and contrary to what some people believe, they don’t have telepathy about what the other is going...
Baseball player Jacob Gruden wouldn’t have mapped out his high school athletic career the way it has unfolded, but the ups and downs have taught him a valuable life lesson: How to turn a setback into a comeback. Now, he’s more than ready to get back on the diamond and make up for lost time....
What a great time of life it is for swimmer Zoe Skirboll! The freshman broke four school records this season, set a new WPIAL record in the 100 breaststroke, surpassed the previous record in the 200 IM, and now is Fox Chapel Area High School’s first PIAA gold medalist in swimming in 24 years. Zoe...
After having a very consistent high school season and receiving great scores, David Manelis felt he could do well at the PIAA Class AAA diving championships that were held March 14-16 at Bucknell University. But he never envisioned how the competition would finally end up. David, a sophomore, earned the silver medal with a score...
Before this season, junior Leia Ross had not been a member of the Fox Chapel Area High School Swimming Team. But she had friends who were, and they encouraged her to join them. Now, she is ecstatic that she did, and even wishes she had signed up sooner considering the great year she’s had individually...
