Defending WPIAL golf champion Anthony Cordaro and four of his closest friends advanced through the first stage of district qualifying.  A junior, Cordaro led a five-player contingent from Fox Chapel at the Section 4-AAA tournament at Willowbrook Country Club in Allegheny Township on Monday. He tied for medalist honors with Franklin Regional sophomore Clayton Skoff with a 2-over-par 74. Fox Chapel’s other qualifiers are junior Alex Lawson (75) and senior Matt Friday (75); and freshmen Grant Thiele (79) and Gregor Meyer (80).

“I putted well but didn’t feel like I got the most out of my round,” said Cordaro, who made five birdies. “I felt I played better than my score showed.”
